How to Choose a Heating Contractor in Egypt: 7 Questions to Ask

A heating system is a 15–25 year decision. The contractor you pick lives with you for that entire period — through warranty calls, service contracts, and parts replacement. This is the seven-question filter that separates a true heating specialist from a generalist with a brochure.

1. "Is heating your only line of business, or one of many?"

Solar installers, electrical contractors, generic MEP firms, and pool builders all sell "heating" as a side line. They are not heating engineers. Their training, their inventory, their service team — all are optimised for something else.

A heating specialist does only heating. The depth of expertise compounds across hundreds of projects. The right answer to this question is "yes, heating is what we do, and only heating."

2. "What is your warranty on piping, equipment, and labor — in writing?"

Most Egyptian contractors offer 1–5 years. Heatec offers 20 years on UFH piping and 15 on radiators. The warranty length is the cleanest single signal of what a contractor actually believes about their own work.

Demand the warranty in writing, with claim process and response window defined.

3. "Which manufacturer brands do you carry, and can I see certification?"

Premium European, American, and certified Asian brands carry their own factory warranties — but only if installed by an authorised partner. A contractor who carries only generic stock cannot pass through those manufacturer protections.

Look for: Grundfos, AO Smith, Henco, De Dietrich, ThermaSkirt, Giacomini, IVAR, Unical, Sira, Bradford White, Rheem, Ariston, and similar.

4. "Can I see three recent projects similar to mine, with contact references?"

A specialist contractor has a deep portfolio of completed villa, compound, hotel, and institutional installs. The right answer is "here are three from the last 12 months, here are the owners — please call them."

Hesitation here means either no portfolio or no confidence in showing it.

5. "Will you provide heat loss calculations for my home before recommending equipment?"

A heating system sized without a heat loss calculation is either oversized (short-cycles, burns more fuel, costs more upfront) or undersized (never reaches setpoint in cold weather). Both happen routinely in Egypt because the calculation is skipped.

A real heating engineer runs the calc as standard. If a contractor says "we will figure it out on site" — that is a red flag.

6. "Who services this system in year 8?"

Ask explicitly about aftersales. Specifically:

Do you have a dedicated service team, or do you subcontract callouts?

What is your response time for a no-heat situation in January?

Do you stock spares for the brands you install?

What is the cost of an annual service visit?

7. "How long has the company been operating, and how large is the team?"

A 20-year warranty is worth nothing if the contractor closes in year 3. Ask:

When was the company founded?

How many heating engineers are on staff?

How many completed projects in the past three years?

Where is the company physically located, and can I visit?

The point of the seven questions

You can run these in 15 minutes on any contractor quote. Most quotes will not survive the filter — which is exactly why the filter exists. A heating system is too long-lived to buy on price alone.
